History of Coronado

Coronado’s Unique History began in the early seventeenth century when the Spanish explorer Sebastian Vizcaino discovered a group of islands off the coast of southern California and named them Las Yslas Coronadas.  After discovery, the island stayed uninhabited until the early nineteenth century, while under Spanish control, Coronado was used as a safe harbor by whalers.
