Coronado Book Fair: April 21-22, 2012

Every year, Coronado Friends of the Library hold their annual book fair the same weekend as the Coronado Flower Show, Motorcars on Main Street, and the Art in the Park weekend.
According to the Coronado Friends of the Library website, each year the Book Fair offers 60,000 "books... CDs, DVDs, Children's books and adult fiction...Nonfiction-cookbooks, garden & home, crafts, biography, military, nature, religion, self-help, computing, business, references, text and test prep."
In order to pull the event together, locals donate books to the library throughout the year, and over 120 volunteers organize the books, store them throughout the year, and prepare for the fair. According to Friends President Joan Sadorf as quoted in David Axelson's article "Coronado Friends of the Library Presents their Annual Book Fair" every year the book donations are so large that they have to be stored at NAS North Island throughout the year and trucked over to Spreckels Park Friday morning before the fair. According to Sadorf,
"The Navy Seabees get us the big trucks every year and without them, we would be sunk. We also use some volunteers from the Naval Special Warfare Command. After the vent during tear-down, we have a Navy helicopter squadron and the NJROTC group from Coronado High School. For the big setup and tear-down, we rely heavily on the Navy."
The money raised at the Book Fair goes directly to fund the library. Sadorf said they net between $25,000-$20,000 each year.
If you want a sneak peak at the Book Fair, show up today and purchase a Friend of the Library membership for $5 (seniors and students) or $10 for everyone else.
The hours for the Book Fair are:
- Friday, April 20 (members only) from 1pm-6pm
- Saturday, April 21 from 9am-5pm
- Sunday, April 22 from 9am-5pm
