That gap just closed when SunCoast Market Co-op opened its doors on January 31, 2026, after more than a decade of community planning and fundraising.

A Grocery Store Built by the Community, for the Community

Inside the bright, welcoming 6,200-square-foot space you’ll find so much more than the basics:

• A full selection of fresh produce, with much of it organic and locally sourced.

• Bulk foods and a fragrant bulk spice area where you can portion out exactly what you need — plus a Dr Bronners soap refill station to cut down on packaging waste.

• A hot food bar and salad bar (Imperial Beach’s only one) with rotating daily entrees, soups, wraps, sandwiches, sushi (!!) and more — perfect for lunch or dinner without cooking.

• Prepared foods and deli options that feel local and generous, from breakfast burritos to hearty meals on the go.

Local Flavor on the Shelves

One of the unexpected surprises at SunCoast is seeing local makers get shelf space right next to major grocery brands. For example, if you remember the old K-Pasta restaurant, you will be excited to know that its pasta — including the popular Totally Sauced line — are now sold daily at the market. These beloved sauces from the restaurant days are now bottled for take-home and show up on the shelves alongside other community favorites.

That mix of local specialty products, everyday essentials, international groceries, and sustainable options makes SunCoast feel like part neighborhood pantry, part farmer’s market, and part lunch destination all in one. It’s more variety than most people expect when they hear “grocery store in IB.”
